There are several methods:
1) She might try misting the paper and her paints as needed using a fine-mist spray bottle. Would be fun for story telling and to save carrying weight to use the water from the Colorado River, silt laden though it is.
2) Can use a wet on wet painting technique, saturating the paper, which might be a heavier weight paper if she wishes.
3) Might adapt her rate of painting to the new conditions and use these to her advantage. Faster results.
4) Might apply ox gall or some other suitable wetting medium of her preference.
I hope this helps and that she enjoys the fantastic beauty of the Grand Canyon.
